MKS PAMP has been involved in the refining business since the acquisition of a majority shareholding in PAMP in 1981. From that time, our refinery has grown to become one of the world’s leading refineries at the cutting edge of technology and excellence. Our refinery is accredited as good delivery for gold, silver, platinum and palladium and is one of only three refineries worldwide designated as ‘Referee’ by both the LBMA and the LPPM.

To give our clients the greatest flexibility in accessing all of the group companies refining services, MKS PAMP acts as the central counterparty for all refining customers. More recently we have added to our refining capacity offering, through our involvement with MMTC-PAMP, India’s largest refinery. It is the first and only LBMA good delivery refinery for gold and silver in the country.

1 Our refineries

MKS PAMP operates a state of the art precious metals refinery in Switzerland, its refining facilities and operational excellence have been recognised since its inception in 1977. The factory’s refining capacity exceeds 450-metric tons for gold, 600-metric tons for silver and 30-metric tons for PGM per year. Methods include electrolysis, wet chemical chlorination (aqua regia), and wet chemical parting. Our experienced staff endeavour to deliver superior flexibility, fast turnaround and competitive pricing. Our refinery has been accredited good delivery for gold and silver by the LBMA and for platinum and palladium by the LPPM. In addition, we are one of only three refineries worldwide designated as ‘Referee’ by both the LBMA and the LPPM.

2 What we refine

Dore
MKS PAMP sources gold and silver doré from around the globe. We collaborate with new mining groups operating in new jurisdictions, as well as with large multi-national groups as they expand their geographic footprints. We have brought many of the new mines production to market and helped position a number of new countries on the gold producing map.

Recycled Material
Recycled material from the secondary jewellery market, investment bars and spent industrial material represent a significant portion of our refineries’ input. As an example, we collect and refine old jewelry from South East Asia, non London Good Delivery (LGD) bars from the banking industry and PGM gauzes from the oil industry.

PGM
MKS PAMP offers its clients a range of PGM refining services. The refineries’ specialised PGM laboratories can treat high-grade and low-grade platinum, palladium and rhodium in the form of residues, spent industrial equipment and recycled material.

Upgrading
Gold and precious metals may be held under various forms, but are only liquid and can immediately be transacted if they match international market standards. MKS PAMP specializes in bringing comprehensive upgrading solutions to the banking industry, including central banks.

3 Assaying

Both refineries operate state-of-the-art assay laboratories to provide highest quality and reliable assays. The comprehensive range of services include fire, spectrometric, ICP, X-ray and chemical assays. All material arriving at the refineries, whether doré or recycled material, is melted and sampled. Both assay laboratories are certified as conforming to the general competency requirements to carry out tests and/or calibrations, including sampling, of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO / IEC '17025 : 2005' Accredited).

As an external affirmation of our high standards, MKS PAMP is one of only three 'Approved Good Delivery Referees' of both the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM), responsible for the testing of samples, the provision of reference samples and other functions in support of the Good Delivery system.
