MKS PAMP Proudly Supports the World’s Deepest Marathon
October 2025 will mark a historic moment in the world of endurance sports and MKS PAMP is proud to be part of it.
On October 25, 2025, 60 runners from 17 countries will descend into Boliden’s Garpenberg zinc mine in Sweden to attempt a feat never before achieved: completing a full marathon 1,120 meters below sea level. As the World’s Deepest Marathon, the event will push the boundaries of human resilience and innovation, while raising over £1 million for global charities.
As an Impact Donor sponsor, MKS PAMP is thrilled to contribute to this extraordinary challenge that brings together athletes, industry leaders, and changemakers. The marathon will not only break two world records, but also spotlight the safety and innovation driving the modern mining industry.
A Marathon Like No Other
Unlike traditional races under open skies, runners in the World’s Deepest Marathon will face 28°C heat, gravel floors, complete darkness, and the silence of the underground tunnels. Equipped with helmets, headlamps, and specialist reflective gear, participants will complete 18 lengths of a 2.4km tunnel, stretch deep beneath the surface; the equivalent of four times the height of the Eiffel Tower.
The event is a collaboration between learning and development specialists BecomingX, mining industry body International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), and mine Boliden.
We’re excited to cheer on the brave runners and stand alongside partners who are proving that innovation underground can have a powerful impact above ground.
Stay tuned for updates as we count down to this once-in-a-lifetime race.
